Vision Expo West is the optometry trade show you don’t want to miss if you’re an ophthalmic or eye wear professional. For three decades, the optical community has been coming together to find inspiration, evolve the scope of patient care, build relationships, and ensure business success at this event.

It’s the eyewear and eyecare event of the year, and it will take place in Las Vegas this year from September 26-29. Learn about the latest medical breakthroughs, shop fashion and luxury brands, experience the latest industry advances, and engage in some essential networking.

Vision Expo West Must-See Booths

Kuusoft:

At booth MS13049 and they will be showcasing the Optical Content Library. This is an ever-growing catalog of content spread across five categories, including optical information, ocular advice, industry commercials and interactive trivia.

They will have a brand new booth design this year with an interactive element. They won Best Use of Technology in a Booth in 2017, so it will be exciting to see what they’ve come up with for this year’s event.

At booth 16065 you will find the stylish, high-quality eyewear inspired by Marchon’s New York City roots. They pair classic silhouettes with modern embellishments. Handmade acetates, custom detailed designs, and rich colorations make this an eyewear company with a difference.

Seminars worth attending

The New Customer Experience: Staying Relevant

This seminar will take place on September 26, 2018, from 3:45pm to 4:45pm at the Sands Convention Center (Location TBD). The speaker, Michael A. (Mick) Kling, is the owner and CEO of Invision Optometry, a large private practice in San Diego.

Michael King will be speaking about the disruptive challenge being faced in the way eye care is delivered with the introduction of online, virtual and mobile eye exams. These controversial new delivery models mean that it’s imperative for practices to offer an engaging customer shopping experience.

This begins with the design, building, and operation of practices that have to be relevant, efficient and creative. He will discuss storytelling and the power of branding, how interactive retail experiences may look and the impact of millennial shoppers. He will also discuss what the top, most innovative companies are doing to offer more engaging customer experiences.

New Frontiers in the Detection and Management of Diabetic Retinopathy

This seminar will take place on September 27, 2018, from 9:45am to 11:45am at the Sands Convention Center – TBD. One of the speakers is Paul Chous, M.A., OD, FAAO. He has a private practice specializing in diabetes eye care and education in Tacoma. The other speaker is Craig Thomas OD, from Dallas, Texas who has been in private practice for 27 years.

This course will cover the detection of neurodegenerative and vascular elements of diabetic retinopathy using novel technologies, such as chromatic contrast thresholding. New strategies for preventing and remediating early deficits will be considered that go beyond simply suggesting good diabetes control.

Myopia Control: Strategies, Science, Success

This seminar will take place on September 28, 2018, from 2:45pm to 4:45pm at the Sands Convention Center – TBD. Dr. Alan Glazier, OD, FAAO, one of the speakers, is a practicing optometrist and CEO of Shady Grove Eye and Vision Care. Michael Lipson, OD, the other speaker, is an optometrist/assistant professor at University of Michigan’s Kellogg Eye Center.

The course will consider the future of controlling the progression of myopia. It will describe myopia control research, patient selection and implementing a myopia control program in practice. It will cover individualized prescribing and strategies.

Vision Expo West 2018 Events


The Vision Expo Opening Night Party will be held on 27 September 2018 from 8:00pm to 12:00am at the Brooklyn Bowl. Your badge will get you free entry and complimentary drinks for the first hour. Bad Habits “Eye Docs of Rock” will be playing till midnight at this well-known hot spot in Las Vegas.

Expanded education programming will be evident at this year’s event to keep the industry updated on best practices in practice management, patient care, retail strategies and much more.
